Date: May 7, 2019
Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Illinois Central College will host informational recruitment events for potential students interested in training for a credential in a high-demand career and technical field. These “Earn and Learn” opportunities are employer-sponsored, apprenticeship-ready, and apprenticeship programs in which students can connect with employers from the beginning of their education and attend college for little to no cost.
Participants can choose from one of two sessions, with identical informational content each evening, will be held on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9, from 5-7 p.m., on the Peoria Campus, located at 5407 N. University St., Peoria.
“Jobs in technical or industrial careers in the Peoria area region are going unfilled due to the gap between the skills employers need and the skills potential employees have,” said ICC Associate Vice President of Workforce Development Dr. Andrew Kerr. “We have programs that pay your tuition and/or provide a paid workforce experience. These opportunities address the need for high demand jobs resulting in a family-sustaining wage.”
Representatives will be available to discuss pathways leading to careers in the automotive, CNC machinist, industrial maintenance, welding, secure software, CDL truck driving, highway construction, solar pipeline training industries. Anyone over age 18, as well as unemployed or underemployed individuals and veterans, are encouraged to attend.
A presentation will be offered at 5 p.m. to provide an overview of ICC’s program options. Representatives of each of the programs, as well as local partnering organizations, will be available at information booths beginning at 6 p.m. to speak to potential students and their families and answer questions.
Advance registration is available at icc.edu/apprenticeship.
Students in Earn and Learn programs can graduate with a degree or earn a professional certification from ICC with little to no college debt, and in some cases, receive a stipend while attending classes. Apprenticeship program students receive 300-450 hours of coursework for each year of apprenticeship, a guaranteed minimum hourly payment, full tuition, fees and books. Candidates for the apprenticeship program must first apply to ICC and then be screened and pre-qualified prior to company interviews.

The “Earn and Learn” Open House events at ICC are sponsored, in part, by Career Link, a non-profit organization that has administered federal job training programs in Central Illinois since 1975.
