Event Description:
Participate this year in one of our Dr. King Day of Service activities. Although there is no fee to join our event honoring Dr. King, we ask everyone attending to being a donation for the toiletry pantry being established by the Pekin Outreach Initiative. Also, before and after the Celebration, you can write a letter to a veteran that will be mailed to the Veterans hospital in Danville, Illinois. 
A light continental breakfast will be served at our celebration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Children in attendance will also receive a free book! 

Storyteller and living history actor Marlene Rivero portrays Ann Stokes, who is believed to have been the first African American woman to serve on board a U.S. military vessel. Rivero presents a first person account of Stoke's inspiring fortitude. Our program will also include a performance by students from Dirksen Primary School, under the direction of music teacher, Mrs. Stropes. Please join us as we pay tribute to Dr. King's memory and achievements.
